LMFF National Graduate Showcase 2011 (with video)

Sportsgirl’s goodie bags at LMFF’s National Graduate Showcase supplied our tastebuds with heart-shaped lollipops yet, in a feast for the peepers, the eye-candy was right there on the runway. For me, this was perhaps the best showing of Australian fashion graduates at the festival that I’ve witnessed. Yes, many of the collections are of that “one last hurrah” kind of uninhibited, flamboyant design that students can indulge in without commercial concern – but they never veered into the needlessly ridiculous for the sake of being outrageous. Thoughtfulness was key.

The outfits from bright young things Ana Diaz, Celene Bridge, Genevieve Kulesza, Jason Hewitt, Kate Sala, Laura Anderson, Jessica O’Connor, Sangeeta Singh, Jennifer Nebel, Sarah Mok, Jennifer Chua and Kate Watson, speak for themselves. They run the gamut from Ana Diaz’s wearable range making me want to write an open letter; “Dear Sportsgirl, Please create the whole Diaz collection wholesale as I. Want. To. Wear. It. Right. This. Instant” to (at the other end of the spectrum) Celene Bridge’s fanciful fractured fairytale styling that blew my tiny little mind. Look, love, watch these names…
