Style Melbourne

Ring, Ring…Hello?

I think everyone should have a trademark to their style. I have a friend who always wears brooches made of Lego and another who always sports some kind of patterned, interesting stockings. Personally, I try to wear a cocktail ring whenever I go out. I have started a small collection of statement-makers; a resin rose inlaid with real flower petals, a hippy-esque mood ring that recalls youthful years and a couple of Swarovski sparklers that get commented upon every time they venture out.

Yet this handful are mere baubles compared to the hefty sparklers among Italian jewellery house Buccellati‘s World Cocktail Ring Collection. Buccellati have been creating jewellery for more than two centuries now and have been making cocktail rings ever since they came into vogue in 60 years ago.

Swooping into town on tour, the collection of 40 dazzling, one-of-a-kind rings feature stones like diamonds, amethysts and South Sea pearls. Each intricate, hand-fashioned ring manages to be delicate (some of the gold looks like lace) and bold at once, they are all designed by the family and can take months to make. My favourite piece was a swoon-worthy opal surrounded by a sunburst of white and yellow diamonds that needs to be seen to be believed.
