The roses are already blooming and the marquees are having their finishing touches applied at Flemington in preparation for the launch of the racetrack’s Spring Carnival tomorrow. Among the famous faces travelling out to enjoy the races are Dame Edna, Jesicas Hart, Georgia Jagger and Jerry Hall. And Mel B too (for all of you closeted-or-not-so Spice Girl fans reading).

A new two-storey enclosure with an invitation-only lounge overlooking the stage has been built for Fashions on the Field. The likes of which UK designer Jeff Banks has not seen since “Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics got married in France”. This year the prize pool tops an obscene $400,000.
