Caulfield Classic Style Award finalists revealed

Whether it is the thrill of the flutter, the champagne before midday or the fashion that draws you to the racecourse, Caulfield’s Spring Racing Carnival has officially commenced! Fashion being my priority, I frocked up for Underwood Stakes Day to witness the entries for the Classic Style Award and the first heats of the Youthful Fashionista category in the Chadstone Fashion Stakes.

Selected designers vying for the Classic Style Award were briefed to ‘create an outfit, from headwear to heels, that represents Classic Style race wear.’ Designers will be judged on their attention to detail and best overall presentation. The winner will be crowned on Guineas Day however there will also be a People’s Choice award where the public can vote online for their preferred style. Designer entrants this year are Feathers, TL Wood, Perri Cutten, House of Baulch and Alexi Freeman, Yeojin Bae, Tristania Drive, Liz Jordan for Noni B, Mr K, Patricia Keech, Made in Donald, Arabella Ramsey,  Anna Campbell, Leonard St, Autonomy and United Soul.

My favourites include Made in Donald’s stunning satin two-piece. In an unusual colour of dusty violet, tiered ruffles decorated the neckline and waist and sat over a classic cut pencil skirt. A decadent line of pearls sat on the front of the dress and embellished the hat.

Arabella Ramsay went understated with a deep blue dress featuring slightly voluminous sleeves that was embroidered with cream leaves. It was teamed with strappy sandals, a simple white bowler hat and camel clutch.

I can’t go past a feminine piece with an edge and Leonard St produced just that. A short, flowing print dress was belted at the waist and capped off by a flattering green bowler cap. Red fingerless biker gloves and sandals with a wooden heel worked with the coloured pattern of the dress.
