Style Melbourne

We love…the Summer Blazer

When I asked her what her favourite fashion item was, a recent interviewee responded that she could never have too many stylish blazers. A blazer completes a look – dressing up jeans or lifting a plain outfit and luckily, stylish blazers more accessible than ever thanks to these Melbourne labels.

1. The Wentworth Blazer from Friend of Mine will be a friend of yours too! Although the shoulder-padded silhouette doesn’t work for everyone (broad-shouldered, fuller body shapes will benefit from slimmer fitting styles), pairing this blazer with skinny bottoms will make you look taller thanks to its longer line and narrow lapels.

2. Búl’s Cream Moliets Blazer also has a relaxed feel when layered over this soft grey summer dress. Wear over black or pair with a black and cream striped top for a clean, chic look. Tip: To give loose blazers shape and a completely different look, nip in at the waist with a belt. Tan or black patent leather belts are particularly versatile and work with most outfits.

3. Kuwaii’s Duster Tailored Jacket in wool from their SS10 collection, Love and a Question, is a relaxed, well proportioned option in a versatile neutral hue. Layer it over a darker, relaxed top for contrast and chic summer style.

4. The subtle sheen of LIFEwithBIRD’s relaxed summer blazer seals the deal for me. Using fabric with sheen enhances the jacket’s drape and light colour, preventing that ‘washed out’ look. The simple, tonal printed top worn underneath breaks up the colour, adding texture and dimension.
