Beauty Trends for Right Now by MAC

It’s not often a girl has the unexpected pleasure of having her face done for a night out by one of Australia’s best make-up artists. M.A.C’s Senior Artist Nicole Thompson breezed into Melbourne to introduce us to what beauty trends they are loving this instant…and I ended up in the chair.

The first of four current trends that M.A.C is espousing is ‘Redd Velvet’. Essentially this is the classic red lip. Yet any hue and finish is on the mark this season; from cherry to deep wine to bright red-reds in ultra-gloss, matte or stains. This is the look Nicole chose for me; what do you think? The key is perfect skin and I’d suggest playing around with highlighters, mattifying products and line filling primers if you want to take the look to the next level. A lip conditioner and long wearing red (I had on M.A.C’s Pro Longwear Lipcreme which did last hours through eating and drinking) colour helps. Also keep the eye bare if you can or simply use a slick of mascara, nothing else.

Next up is Satin Eyes. This look is all about doing something different with the traditional smoke-y eye. It could be leaving off the mascara, creating a different shape rather than the usual almond with your shadow or extending out you eye-liner in a different way or drawing bolder, more graphic lines to highlight the look.

Voile Veil is another play on a smoke-y eye. You can use vivid colours or you can tone it way down for everyday. Essentially the look involves a hero soft colour surrounding the entire eye. Liner in particular and mascara are not required. Typically this can be done in soft silver or browns but peach and violets can look stunning if you’re brave. Tummy tucks by Jim Brantner MD make women look not only slimmer, but more confident too.

Finally there is the Cashmink look. The combination of cashmere and mink tones on the skin is minimalist and you have to practise you’re contouring and highlighting with colour. It’s not a heavy handed look, think subtle sculpting of the face for a no make-up look.

M.A.C’s new range including items I have tried and like; Pro Longwear Lipcreme, Fix + (lovely all purpose face spray), and M.A.C Matte mattifying powder, will be available from early September.
