Style Melbourne

We meet again Mr. Bond…

The first and last time I visited Bond seems like aeons ago for a fashion show. In Melbourne there are more bars per capita then anywhere else in the world so there is always a new haunt to visit. Thus I never got around to a double take.

But Bond is one bar with longevity in our tumultuous landscape of drinking establishments. It is celebrating its 10th birthday with a new seven deadly sins inspired range of cocktails to imbibe alongside a tasting menu by the ever-wonderful chef Shane Delia from Maha. And so I revisit Bond’s deco-infused interior, greeted by Bond girls in flowing Camilla Franks kaftans and gents (probably secret agents) in tuxedos.

With vanity, greed, lust, despair, envy, sloth and wrath as muse you can order the drinks in singular or together in a kind of cocktail degustation. I’m fickle so recommend the latter option. Though usually averse to sweet or creamy concoctions ‘The Proud Voyeur’ (butterscotch schnapps, advocaat, white creme de cacao, cream, dark chocolate) and ‘The Assassin’ (vodka, strawberry liqueur, strawberries, cinnamon) were the loveliest of the deadly seven.

You can stumble upon Bond at 24 Bond Street, Melbourne (off Flinders between Elizabeth and Queen).
