Short & Sweet Style Wrap #32

This week Denmark House will declare the 23rd July ‘Cycle Chic Friday’!

International blogger, film maker and photographer Mikael Colville-Andersen of Copenhagenize.com and Cycle Chic will be the guest of honour. Join Mikael as he discusses how Melbourne can be inspired by Copenhagen’s bicycling lifestyle.

Denmark House is encouraging guests to arrive “in their finest cycle chic attire…top hats, tail coats, cute winter scarves and dresses”. Both ladies and gents should not forget their trusty bikes (the fashion statement du jour) or their cameras. Oppourtunity about for stylish happy snaps that can be submitted to Denmark House post-event.

Pedal along to Denmark House at 428 Little Bourke Street on the 23rd July 5pm for a 6pm sharp start. Places are limited so you’ll have to book. RSVP office@denmarkhouse.com.au

Budding local label Violet & I have announced they will be opening a pop-up shop for one week only. From Monday 27th September to Sunday 3rd October you will find them on Earl Street (off chapel) in Prahran. The pop-up will house their Summer 2011 collection as well as sample and sale items.

Alice Euphemia to the rescue. This Saturday 24th July for one day only (as part of Look.Stop.Shop and the State of Design fest) Alice will have the Fashion Doctors on call for you from 12pm to 5pm. Bring along a not-quite-right piece and the doctors will dispense advice and perhaps a stitch in time to turn it into a new favourite. If your pre-loved item simply can’t be saved there will be the option to donate so that it may find new life elsewhere.

The doctors are designer Nevada Duffy, Dell Stewart, Jo Cramer (working on her masters in sustainable fashion), and Nadia Naprechikov and Cami James of DI$COUNT. Email cathedral@aliceeuphemia.com to book in your free 15 minute consultation for up to three pieces in need of life support.

Also part of the State of Design festivities, Swensk are holding an exhibition in collaboration with RMIT fashion students. Titled ‘Slow Fashion: Concepts of Sustainability’, the project takes four pieces from labels Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Filippa K, J.Lindeberg and Whyred and customises them for four Swensk clients. Photography and a film capturing the process of this project will be on display at Swensk (230 Little Collins Street) until Sunday 25th July.

A quick congratulations and good luck to Nobody who have been nominated in the Best Denim Category for the 10th Sportswear International Fashion Awards.

The Melbourne International Film Festival is underway. Don’t forget to watch ‘Bill Cunningham New York‘ about the lauded New York Times fashion columnist or ‘Picture Me: A Model’s Diary‘ an honest look behind the scenes of the modelling industry.
