Melbourne Spaces: Fleur

Described

as a “beautiful woman who can create beautiful things with flowers” Fleur (a fateful moniker?) McHarg has set up shop on Rose Street in Armadale. This is not your typical flower store crammed with pre-boxed bouquets, bunches of helium balloons and teddy bears. Instead white walls act as a backdrop for comparatively restrained blooms. The scent of jonquils mingle with frangipani candles and waft through the space that Vogue Living editor Helen Redmond describes as “not just a flower shop but an experience”. I can’t resist sinking my nose into the posies and drawing a deep breath.

Fleur has spent over a decade transforming Spring racing carnival marquees, homes and weddings into special spaces. Fleur is “like an artist…flowers are her language” explains Redmond. Fleur’s favourite bloom? A slipper orchid as it is “very unusual and very hard to get”. It’s not hard to get that Fleur (the store, not the lady) will be a lovely new place to seek out flowers for special people and special events or simply to cheer yourself up on a grey winter’s day.

Find Fleur at 13a Rose Street in Armadale.
