Style Melbourne

Art Melbourne 2010

Call me fickle. When it comes to preferences in music I tend to fall for individual songs rather than a band’s entire back catalogue. Art is similar. I must be choosy! Though I’m shamefully under-educated in the way of the artiste, I tend to gravitate toward pieces based on a feeling; whether a certain piece makes me laugh, sigh with relaxed relief, conjures up memories or transports me to another place. I’m not it in for the financial investment just the emotional one.

Whatever you intend for the art you are hunting for Art Melbourne returns to cater to a variety of tastes. Prices range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars so these are authentic works that are attainable. Opening tonight, it runs until Sunday 25th April at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. Tickets are just $20 at the door or $15 pre-booked.

For what it’s worth here are some artists who caught my eye with one or more of their works;

Bronwyn Woodley Graham
Shannon Crees
Shag
Audrey Kawasaki
Narate Kathong
Barbara Tyson
Chloe Vallance
Emma Hack
Rick Matear

Be warned. You’ll need at least two hours!
