Sidewalk 2 – Unzipped

Unzipped

is an opportunity for the biggest brands in underwear to showcase their newest creations. This year’s theme was hats and hosiery, as each design set was coupled with a hat of some description. Designs this year promoted comfort over excess, with a heavy emphasis on accentuating real beauty, which was evident in the styles on show and also with the brand slogan “sexy in any size”.

On display were underwear giants Berlei, with simple designs in a range of colours and cuts such as high waist, bikini bottom and a black leotard with a sheer mid section. The traditional strapless bra was also on display. They were followed by Jockey which offered men’s underpants with stripes and a softer take on the simple women’s designs with the addition of lace to add femineity. Antz Pantz offered underpants to get you in the party mood with designs in multiple bright colours to spice up traditional cuts. Mossimo followed suit with brightly coloured designs but kept true to form with the use of the Mossimo brand name in several different colours on the actual articles, particularly on the waistbands on the underpants and support bands on the bras.

Holeproof showcased a revamped design of the traditional tighty whitie and racing stripped trunks. Rio also presented designs that featured prints and lots of colours, but added an extra fun feature of panels in different fabrics in different colours. Bonds went a little against the trend with edgier designs of leotards and boy legs in black, grey and white. The trademark sloppy joes were also on display, with most designs also featuring a studded skinny belt, giving the line an artillery and street edge feel. If this showcase is anything to go buy, when it comes to underpants, always opt for comfort.
