Rooftop Cinema 2010 Finale

After two weeks layering it up in chilly Japan I returned home to find a couple of my favourite things have been delivered; (real/actual/not electronic) mail and a smattering of lovely invitations including one to a special event at the Rooftop Cinemas. Not so thrilled about the hail damage and a backlog of 200 emails…

While our record-breaking run of unseasonable warmth may suggest otherwise, one indicator that Melbourne is headed into Winter is the conclusion of the Rooftop Cinema for another summer. Nothing like an invite to the roof of Curtin House on a balmy night for a few flicks to reinforce a love of this city. In celebration of another season gone John Jameson Productions (they of the Irish Whisky fame) presented a handful of short films including the ironic Cockroach, the dreamy Provenance Park (my favourite of the night), the joyously silly Viva Las Possum & a confronting Miracle Fish. You can view some of them here. JJP hunts every year for creative short film ideas, allowing the winners a $20,000 budget to bring their vision to life. Did anyone go along on the night? What did you think of the films and which were your favourites? They were of a quality to convert my non-arty date into a budding fan of the format.
