Fashion Collections – Metalicus

By bronwyn

The  Metalicus_2010-39 Metalicus AW 2010 shows the brand has evolved beyond its roots as a range of tees, tunics and tights made from their signature stocking-like material.

Although true to the Metalicus tradition of building layer upon layer, the latest collection showed the brand to be more than basics upon which to build.

Dresses and tops were either monochrome or shockingly bright with no muted in-between.  Texture and colour were the standout themes of Metalicus’ LMFF show, with fluoro yellow, shades of pink and the more muted plum dominating the collection.

Ruffled waterfall and distressed-look scarves were shown in a range of colours and matched with clashing brights, Models strutted the catwalk with lolly-coloured legs, adding to the explosion of colour.

Tights and leggings are key to the Metalicus look and the new collection includes enough to satisfy anyone’s lust with a wide array of textures, colours and patterns from which to choose.

The season’s dress designs were a little more daring than the basic tunics for which Metalicus is known.  Mini dresses in geometric prints and peek-a-boo cutaway styles evoked a mod mood.

The designers were happy to play with length, showing micro minis and maxi dresses, while cardigans and jackets were cropped, knee-length or scraping the floor.

Show favourites include a full-skirted mini created with layers of ruffled, patterned fabric creating a refreshing visual break from the body-con theme. The final piece – a mini dress in a monochrome retro print with bell-sleeves – made a striking impression as the string of models paraded in it to close the show.

These were paired with a full spectrum of coloured tights – a Metalicus favourite that shows they haven’t forgotten their roots after all.
