Our next world famous Spring Racing Carnival is off in the distance. Yet that doesn’t mean that there is a lack of fashions on the field. Yesterday at Caulfield racecourse during the Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Day, ladies and a few gents hit the stage to compete in a summer round of Fashion Stakes. After four heats racewear regular Angela Menz came out as much a victor as yearling Star Witness. She will be off for a Port Douglas holiday after the siren red outfit of her own creation topped off with feathers caught the judges eyes. The runner up was Blanche Milford, another familiar race-goer, who also created her own ensemble in navy blue and vibrant orange with gold details.
The day also saw a fashion showcase with headwear by milliner and judge Peter Jago. His tip for summer hats and headpieces for the races; “Spring is all about everything new. Summer should be an evolution of that, more simple and elegant.”
