Stoneleigh Pop-Up Wine Bar

Our penchant for pop-ups continues. We’ve seen pop-up wineries, galleries, shops and now New Zealand winemaker Stoneleigh brings their pop-up wine lounge to Melbourne’s City Square. I love how all this temporary-ness changes the face of our city constantly and how in a town accustomed to laneway bars and hard to find gems we manage to find a use for every free space we can. Stoneleigh’s shipping container transforms into a full-sized bar studded with river rocks akin to those they use to warm their grapes at their Marlborough vineyard. I dropped in last night and got cosy in their alfresco wicker furniture to sample their Pinot Gris, Sav Blanc and Chardonnay. Usually I’m prefer other wines but I really liked their Chardonnay, the oak-iness wasn’t overpowering for me and I tasted butterscotch tones.

The pop-up wine lounge will be open from 12-3pm and then 5-10pm until Sunday 28th February so wander on by if it is a nice evening. They will also have music performances; last night the Sundance Kids performed and sounded fantastic. Find it on Swanston Street between Flinders Lane and Collins Street.
