The
nominations for the Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2010 Designer Award (presented by Woolmark) were released recently. The nominees are Dion Lee, Gail Sorronda, Gary Bigeni, Konstantina Mittas, Therese Rawsthorne and Melbourne’s own Lui Hon and Dhini. Designers in their first five years of business have the chance to win $10,000, a trip to Paris or Milan and the prestige of the award itself. The worthy winner will be announced on March 16th.
The first ever print issue of Broadsheet Melbourne is out. Check out my page with a feature on Bikini Queen Zoe Elizabeth and a run down of the pop-up shop invasion. Pick it up for nix around town.
Speaking of pop-ups Alexi Freeman has extended his stay on level 1 of Melbourne’s GPO until the 31st of March. The label is on sale now with 10-20% off archived past seasons and rare designs. Check it out if you want to look truly unique.
On the other hand Limedrop are closing their wonderful pop-up, also at the GPO. But they are going out with a bang with a sale that sees nothing in store over $200!
New York Fashion Week will soon be under way in February. Keep an eye out for local designers on show including Toni Maticevski, ex-pat (and 2010 LMFF Designer Forum speaker) Michael Angel and Joolz who is part of an ethical fashion preview event on during the week.
Fans of Sydney label might be please to hear they will open their flagship boutique at 1104 High Street Armadale on Monday 1st February.
