Every
piece in Mina & Katusha’s ‘One True Love’ collection makes a subtle statement, says one half of the designer duo, Katya Baxter.
“Our current collection combines casual designs that are very versatile with intelligent features such as fully reversible dresses, and pieces that can be dressed up for special occasions,” Baxter says.
‘One True Love’ is an impressive array of fresh and wearable pieces. It’s a cohesive range in neutral tones that can be blended to suit any ensemble. This mix-and-match potential coupled with the practicality of reversible garments making eminently wearable designs. This, Baxter says, is important to Mina & Katusha.
“The direction for Mina & Katusha is to create revesible, versatile garments, so we tried to incorporate this concept into the collection.”
But there’s more to the brand than the strong sense of practicality in the designs. The clothes are well cut for classic and simple style. Nautical stripes are a strong summer theme, working in a range of styles from skinny scarves to maxi dresses. The three maxi dresses in ‘One True Love’ are a collection unto themselves: one is figure-hugging and striped to create a svelte silhouette; the second in a retro print, showing a flash of skin in the open back; and one maxi skirt for a creative take on the popular trend.
Although clean lines and simple designs dominate the range, there are subtle embellishments in some pieces. The ruffled tops in black and white are feminine without being too flouncy, perhaps because of the neutral tones. A simple, form-fitting dress is enlivened by a wide bow across the back. These touches make the designs interesting without detracting from the understated elegance. The bow dress, Baxter says, is a crowd pleaser.
And which designs would she and fellow founder Sarina Zammit choose as their personal favourites?
“Its hard to pick,” she answers diplomatically. “We love them all.”
