Whitehouse Institute of Design on Parade

Judging Whitehouse Institute of Design  by the Whitehouse Institute of Design‘s end of year parade the future of Melbourne (and Australian) fashion is looking bright. I don’t say that flippantly. The first and second year Melbourne students’ collections were joined by special appearances from Sydney graduates (as the Institute is only a couple of years old here). I can’t wait to see what the first collections from the final year locals may bring next year.

The designs were creative and original (I see a vast amount of shows and this one felt fresh) without being needlessly outrageous -ie. you could sell these pieces – and there was a lot of colour. I want to wear a LOT of the items already. Apart from a noted lack of the overuse of black I saw dreamy themes and restrained takes on avant garde shapes.

Judge for yourself and feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
