Melbourne Cup Designer Award

The Melbourne Cup Designer Award is an invitation-only competition which judges outfits on a fine balance of originality and adapting current fashion trends to appropriate Melbourne Cup Day racewear.

This year Dhini Pararajasingham of Dhini Couture came second runner up with a navy frock dripping ruffles down the front. Dhini herself looked adorable in one of her military-inspired creations; like a little toy solider.

The first runner up was Tia Carrigan. The Queensland designer presented a 50’s full skirt and shirt combination adorned with emerald green feathers on the skirt and co-ordinating hat.

The winner for the 2009 Designer Award was Craig Braybrook. His 80’s take on 50’s style was accomplished in an electric blue cropped jacket and an undulating, vividly printed skirt. Craig was awarded a Lexus to drive for a year, a trip for two to Paris and a showcase in the Flemington Festival of Racing Fashion Lunch among other fabulous prizes. Congratulations to Craig!
