“Omg.
She’s Fashion Road Kill” presented by Memoirs boutique was certainly an aptly named fashion show. The event was energetic, chaotic, a little frenzied but very colourful, with a charming theme of irreverence heralding spring fashion, balmy summer nights and hot right now styles.
The show, held at intervals throughout the night at new-kid-on-the-block venue Precinct, featured a host of new and established designers, like Minty meets munt, Style stalker, Precious Love Collection, Olympia Scott designs and Cailin Alainn. Nothing too avant garde or modern, the clothing pieces struck the perfect note between being great for Spring races, and having just enough of a unique vintage style flair without being too ‘Nana’s wardrobe’.
Standout pieces for me were a series of comfortable looking harem pants (yes they are still here!), cut-out designs on pieces (in particular a yellow striped pastel top with a waist cut-out from Minty meets Munt, and of course, the accessories.
Cailin Alainn’s headwear had no limits on imagination. Pearls, feathers, lace, crocheting, you name it, and it has been incorporated into the headpieces, cascading with glorious abandon over the models’ fifties vibe hairdos. And the shiny baubles from Precious Love were great statement pieces; nothing understated or delicate, which of course is all the rage right now.
The event was hosted by Amber Renae of Project Runway Australia 2009, and her outfit seemed to accentuate the show unlike any other I have seen. Renee wore a bright, punchy pink minidress with a bib style necklace and with feathers in her hair. Spring is truly here.
