A Stupendous Spring Soiree by Chitra’s Closet

By stylemelbourne

Melbourne Chitra's Closet Stupendous Spring Soiree  weather hosted a delightful afternoon for The Stupendous Spring Soiree for Chitra’s Closet. I entered venue Penny Black with my cupcake shaped ticket to find a wonderland of giant teacups, glittery and vivacious flower decorations and vibrant colours. The audiences gorgeous and eccentrc styles also deserve an honourable mention!

Chitra Mangma’s fairy godmother, a.k.a. Petra, with her fairy wings hosted the afternoon and opened the runway with a rendition of Michael Buble’s, ‘Sway.’ Petra was quite the entertainer and revealed Chitra’s fairytale fashion journey dreaming fabrics and colours in Thailand to finally arriving in Melbourne to study fashion design and open her first store in Victoria Street, Brunswick. A magic wand wave later and we were ready for the show.

Chitra’s Spring Summer collection was an array of pretty, vintage and truly fabulous pieces. Opening with a feminine take on the trouser suit, pants were maximum wide leg and waist height in light pinstripes and detailing bold stitching on pockets. They were teamed with chiffon and satin blouses, sequined button lining and bows a plenty. Soft shades of pastel pinks and greys for Spring although black and red were the two most regular colours teamed together. This matched perfectly with the model’s shades of rose lipstick and classic up-do hair. Accessories were cleverly cute including a purple snakeskin belt and all outfits teamed with divine Elaine Ferwerder millinery.

Short and sweet voluminous shorts entered next in a purple and pink check pattern, yellow shoes and a soft cotton green top with frill detailing. Chitra proved primary colours mix with a red and blue dress teamed with green patterned stockings. Blouses and dresses were adorned with lowers, brooches and femineity plays a big part in the collection with dresses featuring the waistline and high waisted skirts. Satin and silk material is used quite frequently with wrap around evening tops, voluminous and capped sleeves and glamorous dresses are all lined and detailed around waists, shoulders and hems.

Whilst inspired and highly anticipating part two of the runway, Petra again entertained with a divine version of ‘Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend.’ Quite a fitting song for us ladies and we also got a sneak preview of Chitra’s Closet Winter collection. I call it ‘all suited up’ as trousers, pencil skirts and fitted jackets appeared in bold colours, tweed tartan and pattern fabrics. Long wide evening skirts met fitted blouses with voluminous sleeves, detailed pockets and eccentric buttons and lining.

Part two of the runway took us to the races, with black satin dresses in classic styles and red piping. Décolletages were decorated with v-neck, sweetheart and gathering materials. Frills, and lace decorated fabrics and a-line skirts and patterns went from bold reds to subtle rose and soft greys. In her unique way, Chitra also overlaps different materials in the same colour and weaves them into her creations. All pieces were ultra feminine and inspired the ‘romantic’ look. A sweeping red maxi dress was detailed with blue piping and aqua stitching on the hemline and all parts of the piece have been paid attention to. This is visbile from zips, to accessorised belts and designs of nature’s flowers and leaves to accentuate sleeves, waists and hems. The collection was truly fabulous.

Chitra’s collection clearly portrayed her passion for all things vintage and feminine. From strong structured suits, to soft flowing dresses she’s accommodated for every lady looking for something truly distinctive. The collection celebrated women’s fashion and displayed elegance in garment structures and creativity around quality fabrics and detailing. Petra closed with a magic wand wave for an afternoon of happily ever after for all!
