Think intricate detailing, hand-made silk flowers and brocades. Think of headwear that stands a cut above the rest as innovative, timeless and truly unique. Nikolina Concept’s Untitled Spring/Summer 2009 collection takes note from traditional millinery techniques and brings them to a modern forefront.

Designer Nikolina Kucan explains, “I was inspired by the tradition of millinery and I wanted…to take that history and bring it to a new time and place.”

The sculptural shapes and tones derived from such early techniques as hat blocks, work harmoniously with the contemporary detailing and design.

Nikolina’s vision was to create pieces which are “expressive and experimental yet perfectly wearable.” No two of her designs can be compared, however the tone of originality and uncompromised quality rings throughout the collection.

A recent Graduate from RMIT’s Bachelor of Fashion Design, Nikolina expressed an early interest in millinery and views the introduction of her label as a natural progression. “Millinery was one of my interests and something that came naturally to me…it is a very instinctual medium.”

Her color palette is sophisticated and classic, while an adornment of flowers instantly adds a touch of spring glamour to the mix.

Nikolina Concepts expresses a vision previously unseen in such an accessible domain. For a little piece of exclusivity, a taste of tradition with a twist, this label cannot be surpassed.
