is a tiny shame we’ll have to wait a while to add some pieces from Hussy’s Winter 2010 collection to our wardrobes. I had a sneak preview of the upcoming range title “The Killing Moon” last week courtesy the Bowerbird in Collingwood and there were some fab pieces. Hussy designer Marie Hatzis, Project Runway winning designer Anthony Capon and songstress Paris Wells were also in attendance to watch as some tough yet fluid designs were showcased.
I still see shades of their current summer collection “Warrior Princess” in the new range with armour-like details such as gold and silver chain fringing, heavy cuffs and beading on silk skirts conjuring up similarities to those of Roman gladiators. The teeth from zips were de-constructed and added as subtle details to ruffles, necklines and edging.
One stand out column dress featured a sketchy red floral motif and cut-out blooms at one shoulder; that moved it away from the tough amour trend into a more ethereal, Oriental look (to me it was reminiscent of Akira’s aesthetic). I also quite liked the smart, flattering sleeves on a series of mini-dresses whether kimono, tunic or caped-style, particularly a Dynasty-esque, royal blue version of the latter.
The Killing Moon collection maintains a fine balance among its varied design elements. It is feminine without being girly, sexy but not overtly so and features tough embellishment set off by luxurious silky or floaty fabrics.
