Concepcion, Kronborg & Tizka Fashion Show

Melbourne

Spring Fashion Week takes us into the wider community of fashion and the expression of style and individuality with the fashion showcase on Tuesday night featuring unique designs from Melbourne labels Tizka, Kronborg and Concepcion.

Tizka featured a strong colour palette of black, orange and red, stepping into the warm tones for the summer season ahead. Dresses had square-cut backs, skirts had tie-gathered details on the side, and the maxi dress is coming back in fashion. Tizka’s version of the Kimono, inspired by Barbarella, was showcased in a variety of patterns and colours and is a nice adaptation to the original design. Designer Laura Colbert comes from a gothic background and has incorporated this edginess into her collection, targeting the woman who doesn’t mind wearing something that she knows she will stand out in.

Dorthe Kronborg, designer behind Kronborg, says that she is inspired by 1920s Paris as well as French movies. Her current collection bears a French boudoir influence with Moroccan inspired colours such as scarlet and nutmeg. Kronborg’s Spring/Summer collection brings us back to summer basics of sarong-style dresses, tunics and seamless jersey tops. Her lace kaftans, created in colours such as pink and black, drape over the body in an aesthetic fashion – a prefect addition to that extra something to throw over you on a cold summer’s night.

Going one step further from most designers and designing most of her fabrics from a piece of yarn, designer, Linh Thai from Concepcion, works her fabric into her garments. Concepcion’s current collection has a nude palette which we can expect to see a lot of this coming fashion season, with colours of grey and eco cream’s and green’s, the designs look fresh and natural. Linh describes her collection as ‘classic chic’, drawing inspiration from retro and French pastimes, with feminine tunics, bedazzled skirts and cute cardigans. Many of her designs can be worn in different ways, feeling as if you’ve got two items for the price of one!

According to Dorthe, the great thing about Melbourne fashion is that, “if you don’t have a style … you come to Melbourne and you find it”. With so much range on offer from our beautiful city, as shown through just three designers, we should be a proud bunch of smartly-dressed people.
