Fortyfivedownstairs, a whiteout industrial performance space, was transfomed into a physical interpretation of Spring’s forthcoming trends interspersed with blooms from the Flower Temple last night; as Melbourne’s fashion industry assembled to officially launch our 2009 Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.
The media contingent of MelbourneStreetFashion, Fashionising and StyleHunter teams mixed with designers Alexi Freeman, Leigh Buchanan, Susan and Chantal of MaterialbyProduct, Harry Georgiou and Jason Grech of JASONGRECH, the gorgeous Gwendolynne and Richard Nylon among others.
The industry’s take on the ‘extravagant’ dress code ran the gamut from sparkling hunks of rock (mine), several takes on red lips and vintage hair, vintage and faux (fingers crossed) fur, silver disco leggings (Alexi’s), Carmen Miranda style fruit and floral headpieces, gothic gowns, the wearing of nerdy-chic glasses purely for fashion’s sake, head-to-toe silver and suprisingly not an overwhelming amount of black.
