Style Melbourne

A Great Southern Summer

Kerr and Megan Gale returned to Melbourne for the second time this year to walk and watch from the front row respectively as David Jones presented their Spring Summer collection for the 2009-10 season. Over 20 designer collections graced the catwalk including Akira, Sass and Bide, Zimmermann and Calibre who were celebrating two decades of success in the fashion industry.

My favourites included openers Thurley with their feminine deco-era designs, Trelise Cooper’s “I’m just going on a luxurious European holiday” style collection and the midnight hued, vase shaped gown by Harry Who & George Gross. Safari-luxe and explosions of rainbow colour were emerging themes across the divergent collections.

Another highlight was the genius Oz themed soundtrack. Songs from Hunters & Collectors, Men at Work, Kylie, AC/DC and a whole host of Australian musicians covering iconic Australian songs, gave a patriotic touch to David Jones’ ‘Great Southern Summer’ showcase. Summer can’t come quick enough.
