Along comes yet another photoshoot and another young design talent to make make the last of my weekly wage shiver with fear at the bottom of my purse. Fortunately the Spring Summer 09/10 collection by Erin O’Brien is purely an experimental project designed to keep the creative vibes flowing though you can purchase some other designs she has a deft hand in creating courtesy her work on the design team at Kookai.
Of her time so far at Kookai, Erin says she appreciates “the opportunity to design for the range. Not many retailers actually design, they rather develop from overseas samples. Kookai is different in that we get the opportunity to design and develop our own ideas. A highlight was working on the summer fashion parade held at Circa late last year…it was so exciting to see weeks of hard work pay off in a beautiful show.”
I’m really into the clash of textures in this, more personal, collection, with its pretty meets raw feel. There are cutouts, translucent materials and roughhewn edging to keep things interesting. This shoot gathered together the talents of creatives like photographer Isabel Engelhardt and model Madeleine Dixon at Seaford Lifesaving Club.
