Fame Agenda

Some people dream of running away to join the circus…a fanciful escape that rarely turns into reality. Monica Lim dreamt of running away from her perfectly acceptable career to start her own label and that is just what she did.

Fame Agenda is both a boutique stocking local lust-worthy names like Gary Bigeni, Gail Sorronda and Leonard Street and a stand alone label. The store opened late last year after Monica decided to leave her former life as a tax lawyer (snooze) to become a stylish mini-magnate (fabulous!). She also owns the designer clearance boutiques MYL and a noodle bar called Ramon Ja (handy for that appetite whipped up while on a shopping spree). The boutique itself is sleekly designed and sustainably built. The airy space comprises recycled polished timber floorboards, trompe l’oeil archways framing the windows and lighting fixtures reminiscent of the floating candles in the Great Hall of Harry Potter fame.

The label itself shares that sense of cool that its shelf mates in-store possess. The latest range entitled ‘Hiver’ features a lot of draped black, billowing silhouettes and is lacking embellishment allowing the shape and cut of the clothing to speak for itself. My favourite pieces include the Diamond dress with its unique neckline, the medieval Igor dress with its gorgeous purple hue and stud details and the vibrant colours of the slim fit Janitor’s pants. The store also stocks original, limited-edition leather handbags. The name ‘Fame Agenda’ seems to be a self-fulfilling prophecy as you’ll notice it has been repeatedly popping up in the local fashion press and also outfitting songstress Tina Arena on her latest tour.
