Style Melbourne

Short & Sweet Style Snap #4

The glass link bridge at Melbourne Central has been transformed into a designer space until March 27th which showcases designs from Leonard Street, Side Show Design, Chitra’s Closet, Queen and Preap & Coutts.

Some of our photographs will be featured in the next Melbourne Living magazine in April. Keep an eye out for this inspiration-packed design glossy.

Hair stylist Kevin Murphy places his bets on the looks for the upcoming season; the style “is pretty and soft with a fluffy texture…a freshly washed look…so embrace your natural movement.” Sound easy enough to me. Colour-wise he thinks warmer yet natural hues will be in.

J’Aton couturiers Jacob Luppino and Anthony Pittorino will soon be relocating to a base in New York. Late last year fire destroyed their Greville street store so hopefully this move will bring them a prosperous 2009.

Colourful creatives Romance Was Born have taken out the LMFF Woolmark Designer Award for 2009. They now have the chance to travel to Paris or Milan and have an extra $10,000 to play with. Congratulations go to designers Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett.

Kit Cosmetics will release three new nail lacquer shades next week. The pastel, chalky colours are called ‘Game On’ (a cantaloupe shade), ‘Winner Takes’ (fairy floss) and ‘High Roller’ (minty).

Andrew Hunt has been promoted from sous chef at Exhibition Street’s Trunk to be appointed their new head chef. The modern Italian eatery played host the Fashionising’s ‘High Fashion, High Tea’ Parade from Melbourne Spring Fashion Week last year.

Our city is getting into the seasonal spirit with some chocolate themes coming through. What to do with 2.5 kilograms of dark chocolate other than scoff it down immediately? How about turning it into a work of art in a professional culinary sculpting competition. The Callebaut Chocolate Easter Egg Challenge is on at the Conservatory in Crown next Thursday and the sweet creations will be on display until April 14. You may also notice a giant egg shape formed from golden orbs hanging like a chandelier while shopping at Melbourne Central. Never fear, it’s just Fererro Rocher’s contribution to the Easter spirit.

Puma are showcasing their Archive range for winter in a fashion parade entitled ‘Beat Street’ next Wednesday evening at the Toff in Town. Choreographer Nacho Pop is hosting and we’ll bring you coverage of the hip styled show later next week.

The nominees have been announced for the inaugural InStyle Women of Style Awards. The list includes some notable Melbournians like designer Lisa Gorman, cosmetic queen Natalie Bloom, environmentalist Larissa Brown, Greenpages founder Katie Patrick, and Carolyn Creswell of Carmen’s (with their scrummy muesli).

Chronicles of Never are having sale on today starting from 2pm until 7pm and tomorrow from 12 to 5pm. It’s at the Carlton Hotel 193 Bourke Street, Melbourne with up to 50% off.
