Pacific Brands announced it is shutting its clothing manufacturing operations in Melbourne and moving production of its brands, like Bonds and Berlei, offshore. Around 1800 workers across Australia will lose their jobs by 2010. Union action protesting the decision occurred in the city today with members of the firefighters union stripping off. An open letter has been addressed to brand figureheads Sarah Murdoch, Patrick Rafter and Michael Clarke urging them to dealign themselves with the company’s brands.
