Designers for Sportsgirl & first ‘SG’ store

If you are always on the look out for ways to pass the time while waiting for those oft-delayed planes like me, then rejoice! The very first ‘SG’ branded Sportsgirl store has opened at Melbourne Airport (in the Virgin terminal). It stocks accessories only so distract yourself with shoes, bags, cosmetics, scarves and jewels.

More designer collaborations are heading our way in 2009, with both Australian and international designers adding to Sportsgirl’s shelves. These designs are available only online and at their Melbourne Bourke Street store (except the Elke collection which is available at selected stores). Here is what we are in for;

Now…LA designer Rory Edelman’s colourful label ‘Rory Beca’ and Iranian designer Hushi Mortezaie’s T-shirt label ‘Trash and Luxury’.

February…Australian Elke Kramer brings a taste of her ‘Elke’ collection in-store with 11 pieces of jewellery, including those famous geometric cut bracelets, and leather goods. The range is inspired by clashing carnivalesque Mexican culture. Sydney’s ‘Maurie and Eve’ will also pop in.

March…US label ‘Frye’ footwear brings their boots to our shore (this label has been around since their Civil War with its old-school military leanings). ‘CC Skye’ adds glamorous statement jewellery and Sydney label ‘Minty Meets Munt’ by Tanya Curmi adds to the mix.

April…Local designer Tristan Blair’s amazing shoes already have a cult following, can’t wait to see what he unveils here.

Looks like I will be scheduling regular trips in to Bourke Street this year.
