Oaks Day Fashion on the Field

The most important day for competitive fashion arrives as Oaks Day. One last daily final for our Victorian competitors was won by Ballarat resident Shona Cowell. Her white garden party appropriate frock was designed by a friend, Jade Lawer and was the perfect ladylike (as it tradition for Ladies day) foil for the heavier black that won out on other days.

From then Shona was shuttled into the Victorian final to see who would represent our state to win the Fashions on the Field contest for 2008 overall. Derby Day winner Sarah Schofield and Kirsty MacGillivray winner on Melbourne Cup day were her fellow contestants. Kirsty won out to take her place representing Victoria in the national final.

…And she was victorious here also with Margeaux Carle from SA and WA’s Rebecca Thompson as first and second runners up respectively.

The invitation only Millinery Award was won by local Liza Stedman with her sculptural straw and gold piece. Let’s hope the prize gives her a boost for next year carnival season as she says business has been a tad quiet due to the current financial climate. Take a look at our extensive gallery below and see if you agree on who were crowned the winners on the day.
