Fashion Stakes Grand Final at Caulfield

After the excitement of the Caulfield Cup had just died down, we gathered our belongings and said (a very reluctant) goodbye to the luxurious Pegasus Marquee, and headed up to the Fashion and Entertainment precinct nearby to watch the final of the Chadstone Fashion Stakes.

Of the 10 finalists (nine females, and one lone man) each and every one was styled to perfection. A clear trend on show this season were subdued, nude and beige hues, yet some competitors were adorned in splashes of sunshine yellow and even sophisticated black, which made for terrific on-stage contrast.

In the end, it was the 60’s inspired ensemble worn by 21 year old model Alexandra Knight that went home with the Crown (not to mention $52k worth of cash and prizes!). The monotone dress was by Australian designer Jacqui Alexander and was paired with a vintage handbag from Alexandra’s own mother’s collection and a fairly simple saucer-shaped hat.

To catch the eye of he judges and stand out among a stylish crowd that included Kate Waterhouse, Livinia Nixon and Peter Jago is no mean feat. Who do you think was the winner on the day?
