Springtime has really only just sprung to life in our fair city, yet W.A. label Morrison are already fashionably forward thinking. They recently invited a select few to their only Victorian boutique in Chadstone for a special preview of what is to come for Morrison Winter 2009. The term ‘Toujours’, as the title of their upcoming collection, conjures up thoughts of everlasting love or trying to impress the object of your affection by using limited French in love letters scrawled during youth. The designers invite us to take its true meaning as we wish and let the clothing speak for itself.
Upon first impressions the stormy colour palette (charcoal, olive, fog, oat) harks back to wintry days spent curled up in an (admittedly imaginary in my case) luxury beachhouse by the seaside. The clothes are softly tailored inviting you to want to live and lounge in them all season long. The look is ultra relaxed yet luxurious due to loose tailoring, thin layers and draped forms. The collection sells an idyllic lifestyle. Favourite pieces include the ‘Stella’ leather jacket impersonating a perfectly detailed vintage classic, the ‘Rocha’ pant with its man-style silhouette and soft paper-bagged waist and the simple versatility of the smock-like ‘Eve’ dress.
The retail space itself echoes the natural earthiness of the collection with exposed wood, beach artifacts and exclusively-imported French trinkets. And the Morrison experience includes private viewings if you are one of their loyal VIP clients – how luxurious. Their current Summer collection ‘Innocence’ (it too is exactly what the name encapsulates) can be found on the racks now.
Now we just have to wait for a winter collection to fall in love with. Sigh.
