Style etc…Vintage Soul adds Spice

Vintage Soul Spice Market Shoot We have just received the latest photoshoot from Emily Highfield’s eco-vintage label Vintage Soul. The sumptuous surrounds of current Melbourne hotspot Spice Market (which is hosting another fashion event next week) lend a darky exotic touch to a limited selection of the label’s Winter 2009 ‘ Sugar and Spice’ collection. In the shoot, Windsor boutique Fanny’z and in-house label Jaakan also become the subjects of photographer Emily Abay’s talented lens (she recently shot collections for Miss Lyndel Yeo too). Enjoy!

Event - Eat Street’s ‘Winter Wonderland’

Richard Nylon for Eat Street 09Fusing food with fashion (two of my equally favourite things), Eat Street has just celebrated 10 years raising money for the Australian Childhood Foundation (which provides counselling to kids affected by neglect, violence or abuse). Their event at the Sofitel on Collins last week saw lots of delish food and fashion designers creating one-off designs that were auctioned off on the night. Guests included local designers such as Richard Nylon, and Megan Park among the typical glitterati.

The theme was ‘Winter Wonderland’ and specially designed pieces were on offer from the likes of Life with Bird, Peter Jago, Sass & Bide (tutu!), Willow (a child’s feathered smock), Alice McCall, Cohen et Sabine, Gwendolynne, Jodhi Meares, Jessie Hill, Sarah Schofield, Megan Park, Nikki Stevens and Richard Nylon (potentially my fave with a coral inspired head piece). Even some of Eric Bana’s recent fashion memorabilia, from films Star Trek and Love the Beast, were on offer. Read More »

Style etc…A Dream Spring Summer 09/10 by Alexi Freeman

Silk & Mesh Dress - Alexi Freeman Spring Summer 2009 2010The first time I met Collingwood-based fashion designer Alexi Freeman a dashing sailor’s hat teetered jauntily across his crown. The nautical flavor was a nod to his upcoming collection of the time ‘Nautical but Nice’. Two seasons on, the original designer is still dancing to his own beat and has produced my favourite collection from the label to date for Spring Summer 2009/10. Sigh, I’m in love again…

You should be aware that I am unconditionally crazy about anything silver and since it features heavily in the collection I may be biased about many of the pieces from the outset. The colour palette also extends to basic black and a rather cantaloupe shade of peachy-pink melon (which looks as juicy and delicious as its namesake). A glossy black and white plaid also features, as does the old ‘Criss Cross’ element from Alexi’s previous collection – however this time subdued in a subtle print.

As per usual the collection is sexy and feminine without being overly girly. Read More »

Style Etc…Kit Willow - Creature

23_imagelarge.jpg

Kit Willow has outdone herself yet again in producing one of her most feminine and inspired collections to date.  ‘Creature’ encompasses an effortless, elegant range of pieces for women of all shapes, sizes and ages, comprising eye catching details and an unusual yet totally spot on colour palette.

In stark contrast to her previous collection, ‘Sacred Trace’ which channeled a middle eastern, cool and casual vibe, ‘Creature’ brings elegant tailoring, delicate details and amazing cuts to life in a very grown up, yet girly manner.  Primarily black, shape is key, with voluminous skirts, scalloped hems, ruffles, and plenty of 90’s power dressing style structure.  Splashes of moss green, salmon pink and rich blues and purples add emphasis to the feminine theme that runs throughout the line. It teaches things like confidence, choreography, composure, make up application and presentation with the aim of getting its students into agency books and onto catwalks and magazine covers. Periodically they hold runway shows for students to show themselves and their newly aquired skills off so we thought we’d go along to check out potential rising stars this week. Event - Miss Greens Wardrobe #2

img_7969.jpg

Last night was take two for Rebecca George and her wonderful concept of exchanging high end designer clothing, that is of course, Miss Greens Wardrobe.  Baroq House played host yet again, and the venue was as decadent as ever, making for the perfect venue for a night of fashion, fun and a few drinks with the girls (and boys).

For those of you who are not familiar with Miss Greens Wardrobe, the event allows frugal and environmentally conscious fashionistas to swap their unwanted designer clothing with others, whilst enjoying the lush surrounds of a high class venue, drinks, food and plenty of exciting giveaways.

Rebecca and her wonderful team of helpers upped the ante on the first MGW event, this time including an amazing fashion parade featuring designs from sustainable Australian label, Farage.  Models were Read More »
